Key points
- Released to your payment account and paid out to your bank are two separate steps.
- Payout timing is set by Stripe and your account settings.
- A transfer is never a completed bank payout.
- Faster payout, where offered, is optional and has a separate disclosed fee.
This summary is for convenience only. The full text below is what governs.
1.Two steps
When a Protected Payment is released, your entitlement is transferred to your Stripe payment account. This is called a transfer. Money then reaches your bank through a payout under your Stripe payout settings. We never describe a transfer as a bank payout.
2.States you will see
- Released to provider account: the transfer to your payment account has been confirmed by Stripe;
- Payout pending: a payout to your bank is scheduled or in progress;
- Paid out: Stripe has confirmed the payout was paid;
- Payout failed: the payout did not complete, for example because bank details need updating.
3.Timing
Payout timing depends on Stripe, your country, your account history and your payout schedule. We do not promise dates. Where Stripe or a bank delays a payout, we show the state Stripe reports.
4.Optional faster payout
Where Stripe offers a faster payout and we make it available, it is optional, it is shown with its fee before you choose it, and it is never part of a mandatory fee.
5.Refunds, reversals and negative balances
If a released payment is later refunded, charged back or settled in the buyer's favour, we may reverse or recover all or part of the transfer as far as the law and Stripe allow, as set out in the Provider Terms. If your payment account balance becomes negative, you remain responsible for it, and we may recover it by deduction from future entitlements.
6.Statements
Your statements show gross earnings, platform fees, tax on fees where it applies, refunds and adjustments, and net earnings for each order, with transfer and payout states shown separately.
7.Holds
Release or payouts may be paused where an issue or chargeback is open, where Stripe requires it, or to prevent fraud or comply with law. We will tell you why where we lawfully can.
